Our Year 1 children visited Hampton Court Palace on Thursday, bringing their recent Tudor studies to life in spectacular fashion. After weeks of learning about King Henry VIII and his famous court, the children were able to walk in the very footsteps of royalty, exploring the Great Hall and experiencing the sights (and imagining the smells) of the bustling Tudor Kitchens. From marvelling at the ornate tapestries to imagining the grand feasts of the past, the trip provided a brilliant hands-on look at what daily life was really like in the 16th century. The highlight for many was visiting the Magic Garden, a themed adventure playground built on the site of King Henry VIII’s former jousting arena.
A big thank you goes to all the parent volunteers who accompanied us on the day. Your support was invaluable in helping our young explorers navigate the palace grounds safely and making this such a memorable educational experience for everyone involved!
Our Wednesday after-school Art Club has been a whirlwind of colour and creativity lately. Over the past few weeks, our talented artists from Years 1, 2, and 3 have been diving into the vibrant world of contemporary Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.
Known globally as the Princess of Polka Dots, Kusama’s work is famous for its repetitive patterns and bold dots. Inspired by her style, our young creators have been busy sculpting unique beads from clay before carefully applying intricate dotty patterns using Kusama’s signature technique. To finish their projects, they have been threading these masterpieces to create one-of-a-kind bracelets. It has been wonderful to see the children’s focus and fine motor skills in action as they truly embraced the idea that a simple dot can turn into something extraordinary.
