For regular updates on all the exciting things we are getting up to in school, you'll need to follow us @StStephensCofE.
Don't miss out!
One of the highlights of the Christmas season here at St Stephen's is our Nativity performances. Year Two is a little short on costumes, so if you have any unwanted Nativity costumes from previous performances that would fit a Year Two child, we would love to use them. Thank you so much. You can take any donated costumes to our front desk.
Our staff are all feeling very inspired after some fantastic workshops with motivational speaker and coach Stuart Lawrence. Our ongoing collaboration with Stuart has been invaluable in our journey to become an anti-racist school. We are working towards creating a judgement-free environment in which we all feel safe to discuss sensitive topics by actively listening to each other. The theme of his talks was 'Developing confidence in talking about race and difference.'
As well as delivering collaborative workshops to our staff, Stuart also led sessions with parents and children. We were all encouraged to question our behaviours around prejudice and discrimination, including examining the difference between being non-racist and anti-racist. An anti-racist attitude allows us to become active in developing an upstanding mindset, where we question discriminatory behaviours, in all forms, both at home and in school. Ultimately, this can help us empower our children to accept all types of difference.
Stuart guided us in the belief that all of us are works in progress and we can continually revaluate our behaviours and attitudes to each other. He believes that in life just ten per cent of what we encounter is uncontrollable, the other ninety per cent of our experience, and how we treat each other, is down to us. What can start off as just a small bias can end up as mass violence if we do not check our behaviours and attitudes. Thank you Stuart for some thought provoking sessions.
1. Pencil case - plain and small
2. 3 x HB pencils
3. Pencil sharpener
4. Rubber
5. 30cm ruler
6. Small set of colouring pencils
7. Protractor (Year 5 and 6)
8. 3 x Blue handwriting pens
9. 3 x Dry wipe black whiteboard pens
10. Glue stick
· It would really support us if these items are labelled if possible.
· There is no need for expensive or overly fancy items (ie. not from Smiggle). Please do not buy glittery/smelly pens or pencils with toppers as these can be very distracting in lessons and don’t support children to produce neat handwriting.
· All stationery (apart from the ruler) should fit inside the pencil case and the pencil case should be small enough to fit inside children’s trays.
· From our experience, not all stationery is created equally so we have suggested some brands in the links that are better quality and will last for longer. We suggest buying packs so that you can restock your child’s pencil case when items run out. We get through a lot!
IMPORTANT NOTE: School emails from the richmond.sch.uk domain may fail to be delivered
Message from our IT provider Click-On-It:
A number of sites within the Richmond-upon-Thames borough have been reporting that delivery of outbound emails have been failing to reach some recipients.
We have been liaising with both LGfL and Microsoft on this issue, and have diagnosed this as Microsoft having erroneously placed richmond.sch.uk on a black-/grey-list.
We have an on-going dialogue with both parties, with Microsoft having to provide the fix. Please rest assured both CITL and LGfL are pushing as forcefully as we can, and hope for a swift resolution.
For your reference, the same issue occurred twice before, in October 2023 and June 2024, and were informed by Microsoft that they had put safeguards in place to prevent this reoccurring. After we have a fix in place, we will be seeking reports as to why this didn't happen, and assurance that the same issue won't reoccur going forward.
Please see a temporary fix below if our emails are going to your junk folders
Last week we brought you the young chefs from Attenborough class and this week it is the turn of their peers in Lau. Miss Downes told us: "Our Lau students cooked up a storm during their DT workshop in Mrs Cox's kitchen. Frittata was on the menu and they worked hard at using the claw and bridge cutting skill. They also grated, fried, washed up and sampled their cooking. The verdict - delicious. I think we may have some future chefs in the class. A massive thank you to Mrs Cox for her skills and knowledge."
Our Year Four children have been channeling their inner Turner, with come fantastic recreations of the great man's landscapes, based on his colour palette.
