Our Assemblies

Here's a little update on assemblies from our RE Co-ordinator, Tanya Blomley:

"Each week we have a theme for assemblies, which is the focus of our Tuesday Church assembly and KS1 and KS2 assemblies. This work is continued by our teachers during their class worship. We use key stories, verses and teaching from the Bible to reference the theme and aid understanding."

Our current theme is the Trinity. "The Trinity is the central concept of Christianity and is the idea that God is one but exists in three different 'Persons.' God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. The word Trinity comes from the words 'tri' meaning 'three' and 'unity' meaning 'one.' It is lovely for us to have our St Stephen's Church assembly on Tuesday to kick off our theme, and then to continue the focus in our key stage and class worship sessions throughout the week. In this way we embed the learning and give our children a real understanding of some key Christian concepts," explains Mrs Blomley.

In addition, our children also enjoy Monday celebration assembly (see this week's merits and ambassadors on page two) and a Friday whole school singing assembly.

CAN YOU HELP FOSS COLLECT TESCO TOKENS IN ST MARGARETS?

If you go along to the Tesco branch in St Margarets, you could help our fabulous FOSS raise £1,500 for our school Wellbeing Services. All you have to do is go up to the counter after you have paid for your shop and ask for some tokens. Then post them in the St Stephen's slot. Our staff are doing their bit to collect as many tokens as possible. We hope you can help FOSS too. They need lots of tokens. Thank you.

RECEPTION ROUND UP

It's been a whirlwind of 'firsts' since our Reception cohort joined us last week. Following on swiftly from their 'first day at school,' they have had their first carpet time and their very first maths and writing lessons. In maths they have been matching the number of items to the number on the dice, while in writing they have been learning how to form their first graphemes s, a, t and p. Before using the whiteboards to write letters they learnt whiteboard routines by drawing pictures of themselves and their favourite animals. Those intrepid bears, Billy and Bobby, have also been enjoying their first home visits with their new Reception friends.

Over the weeks we will bring you lots of pictures of our youngest learners, as they enjoy their first year in school. Watch this space.
