Every week, we publish a guide from #WakeUpWednesday. This organisation helps parents and educators keep children safe online, support their wellbeing and empower them to become positive actors against climate change. You can access all previous guides here.
This week, the guide looks at AI Enabled Scams
Young people now have more ways to connect with other people online – from school group chats to TikTok videos. But this can also put them at risk of grooming and sexual exploitation. Online grooming crimes against children have increased by 89% in six years.*
To help keep children safe while still enabling them to enjoy their time online, we’ve put together some tips for parents on keeping children safe in the unpredictable online world.
Open up: Create a space where your children can come to you when they’re ready and not feel judged. You can learn more about what might be bothering them and how you can keep them safe.
Get involved: Set up your own accounts and connect with your child, if they feel comfortable.
Set boundaries together: Come to an agreement on privacy settings with your child, where they feel listened to and involved.
Discuss the aims: Talk to your child about online risks, especially if they want to become an influencer.
We hope these tips help. Please share with people around you who may find our wellbeing resources useful.
Thanks for your support.
