We are delighted to share some wonderful news with our school community. Mr Cain will be away from school for two weeks starting from next week as he begins his paternity leave.
We have ensured that all of Mr Cain’s lessons and after-school clubs are fully covered during his absence, so there will be no disruption to the children’s usual routines and activities. Everything will continue to run as scheduled.
I am sure you will all join us in wishing Mr Cain and his wife the very best of luck and much happiness as they welcome their new addition to their family. We look forward to hearing his happy news when he returns!
There has been a great deal of "vrooming" and "zooming" in the Reception classrooms this week as our youngest learners prepare for their upcoming adventure to Brooklands Museum.
Our current topic on Transport has taken the children on a journey through time and design. Here is a look at what they have been up to:
Our creative stations have been transformed into mini-factories! Using a variety of recycled boxes and materials, the children have been busy designing and building their own vehicles. It has been wonderful to see their problem-solving skills in action.
Beyond building, the children have also been acting as historians. They have been exploring how transport has changed over the decades, carefully ordering pictures of vehicles from long ago to the modern day. It led to some fascinating discussions about how much faster and shinier our cars and planes have become!
In our play areas, the learning continues! Inspired by our current favorite story, The Naughty Bus, the children have been recreating scenes of mischief and travel. We have seen some incredibly patient 'bus drivers' managing long queues of vehicles waiting to enter the garage for repairs, showing great cooperation and storytelling skills.
Stay tuned! We will have a full report and plenty of photos from our big day out in next week’s newsletter.
Year 1 had a very exciting visit this week from a local dentist - who also happens to be Tara’s mummy! She spent time with the children teaching them all about the importance of oral hygiene and how to keep their teeth and gums healthy and strong.
The children were fascinated by the demonstration and were eager to share what they had learned. When we caught up with them after the visit, they were full of advice for a healthy smile:
"When you brush your teeth, you have to brush in tiny circles around your teeth."
"You have to spend two minutes brushing your teeth."
"You need to brush them twice a day - in the morning and before bedtime."
To help the children put their new skills into practice at home, our visitor very kindly provided everyone with a special goody bag to take home. These included a brand-new toothbrush, a handy two-minute timer, a star chart to help with motivation, some fun colouring activities, and a fun tooth character rubber.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Tara’s mummy for visiting us and inspiring the children in such a fun and engaging way. Our Year 1 smiles have never looked brighter!
Inspired by his learning in French recently with Ms Chaabane, Tobin rushed home to bake the 'French King Cake' Galette Des Rois. We have heard rave reviews from his mum, stating it was delicious. We love when students are inspired by their learning and explore at home. Check out his scrumptious cake!
This week, our Year 2 classroom was transformed into a lunar landing site for a very special English lesson. To kick off our latest writing project, the children had the incredible opportunity to interview "Bob," the Man on the Moon!
Armed with questions and a mountain of curiosity, our young journalists asked some truly probing questions. We discovered exactly how Bob keeps the moon clean (it involves a lot of sweeping!), how he eats his lunch with zero gravity and whether he believes in aliens.
This summer, Nicola, our school chef, is taking on the challenge of a lifetime - a charity Sky Dive!
This isn't just a thrill-seeking adventure; it is a journey very close to Nicola’s heart. She is taking to the skies to raise vital funds for the Princess Alice Hospice, in loving memory of her dad.
The Princess Alice Hospice provides incredible end-of-life care, focusing on dignity, compassion, and support for families during their most difficult times. It is a cause that means the world to Nicola, and we are so proud to support her as she honors her father’s memory in such a brave way.
As many of you know, this jump has been a long time coming. Nicola had originally planned to complete the dive several years ago, but like so many things, her plans were derailed by the pandemic. Her commitment hasn't wavered, though, and after years of patient waiting, she is finally ready to make the leap this July. Her determination to see this through is an inspiration to us all.
If you would like to show your support for Nicola as she prepares for her big day on July 11th, any donations would be greatly appreciated. All funds go directly to the hospice to help them continue their life-changing work in our local community.
