Ruils is a local, user-led charity that is often described by parents as the 'compass' for navigating the complex SEND system in South West London. Their Family Matters service is particularly valuable because it focuses on the wellbeing of the whole family, not just the paperwork.
Unlike generic advice lines, Family Matters provides a designated Parent Support Worker who works with you 1-to-1. They are there for families with children (aged 0 - 25) who have any additional needs or disabilities - no official diagnosis is required to access their help.
How they can help you:
Emotional Support: A non-judgmental space to share your worries.
Practical Strategy: Helping you unpick specific challenges at home, such as sleep issues, picky eating, or managing sibling dynamics.
Navigating the System: Help with DLA/PIP applications, finding local respite care, or identifying inclusive holiday clubs.
Advocacy: They can sometimes attend difficult meetings with you to ensure your voice (and your child's) is heard.
How to access it: You can self-refer by filling out a simple form on the Ruils website.
Richmond Families: Contact Surabhi or Martha at family@ruils.co.uk.
Hounslow Families: Contact Alka Tripathi at alkatripathi@ruils.co.uk
