Off site visits can be the perfect way to reinforce our classroom learning. So, with this in mind, our Year Six children recently embarked on trips to the Globe Theatre (as part of their Shakespeare learning) and a Buddhist temple. Getting into some Montague and Capulet poses at a Globe workshop and a guided tour of this landmark theatre showed them 'All the world's a stage.'
Next up was a visit to leafy Wimbledon Village to check out the picturesque Buddahapadipa Temple, the first Buddhist temple built in the UK. Constructed in 1976, the charming building nestles beautifully in the surrounding landscape and provides a haven for local Buddhists, giving our children a real taste of the peace and tranquility of the religion. A session with a Buddhist monk provided an opportunity to ask informed questions, based on their learning in class. If you chance upon a Year Six in your travels, do ask them about Buddhism, they are fantastically knowledgible. They have been thinking about which element of Buddhist teaching they would like to bring to their own lives. Many chose 'karma,' as they were truly inspired by the message. Their interpretation of it made them think about getting back what you put in and giving and receiving kindness.
