The late, great David Bowie, said that 'we could be heroes just for one day.' It is a theme that has been taken up by the Iranian-British artitist Soheila Sokhanvari. One strand of her work superimposes pictures of her subjects on a whimsical background, working in a collage of differing materials. Our KS2 children have been studying her work in art club and have magpied many of her ideas to create some amazing self portraits. Starting off with a photograph of themselves, they have used this as the central point of the image and placed it against an idealised background of their choice. Andy Warhol said fame is fleeting and everyone gets just fifteen minutes, but we are sure these images will make our children heroes for just a bit longer than that. They are so brilliantly executed.
