This was the question posed to Year Three by our art teacher, Ruth Garner. If you have ever spied a bird's eye view of the magical patchwork quilts of fields from your aeroplane seat, you will know what she means. This question was the starting point for our Year Three children to depict their own aerial shots of farming fields and the resulting images are so stunning and colourful.
Our Art Lead, Pam Gawn, explained the project: "Year Three has been studying settlements in Geography and the impact that humans have made on their environment. We observed the patterns made by growing crops and the cultivation of the land, observing the buildings and roads needed to support a human settlement. For inspiration, we looked at the works of Carol Rhodes, a Scottish artist, famous for her paintings and drawings of landscapes marked by human intervention. We decided to look closely at the marks made by farmers on the land from a bird's eye view, creating printing blocks from styrofoam. The resulting printed and textured paper were then used to produce collages."
Here is a selection, we do hope you like them.
