POLICE TALK ON COUNTY LINES FOR YEAR FIVE

Our Year Five children had a talk from the police about county lines which is becoming an increasing problem, often involving primary aged school children. County lines is the term used when illegal drugs are transported from one area to another, often across police and local authority boundaries, usually by children or vulnerable people who have been coerced to do so by gangs. This is something we are keen are children become aware of so that they can protect themselves. The threat of county lines is one of our major safeguarding concerns and by the end of the session our pupils learned how to identify the signs and know what to do if someone approaches them to take part in county lines drug dealing.

Liz Bachour, our headteacher, said: "As a result of information received from our local safeguarding team, we understand county lines is a now very much a local threat. This often starts with primary aged children. We want our children to understand how the perpetrators may attempt to groom them and bring them into this criminal activity so that our children can keep themselves safe by knowing the warning signs and telling a trusted adult at school or at home."

We urge parents and carers to also be aware of local safeguarding threats and you can find out more about county lines on the NSPCC website: https://learning.nspcc.org.uk/child-abuse-and-neglect/county-lines/

NSPCC SPEAK OUT, KEEP SAFE WORKSHOP

We love to see our children having a good time in the playground. Games galore in the chilly sunshine this week, building friendships and the odd Lego masterpiece or two.
