Preschool
The preschool children have been enjoying lots of practical activities with natural resources using a range of media to be able to create a range of artwork.
The children have been painting using fruits in different ways with printing or rolling vegetables. Other activities have included making fruit kebabs and looking at the colours of the rainbow.
We have been collecting natural resources with flowers, twigs, daisies and leaves and using these to paint with.
Nursery
Praying during the Month of May
We had the statue of Mary with us for a few days in May. We sang ‘Ave Maria’, waved our hand made flowers and prayed for our family and friends.
Nursery had their very own Sports day and it was a great success!
We played javelin, egg and spoon race, dribbled the ball, threw the bean bag into the hoop and we took part in an obstacle course! Our parents joined us and cheered us all on! When we got back to class we received our handmade medals as a prize. Everyone was a winner !
Father's Day Stay & Play Session
Funny Bones
Children were reading the story ‘Funny bones’ in class and were exploring the different sized bones that make up a human body. Children did large scale mark making outside with their bodies and chalk. They drew around their body and then drew their bones and ribcage.
Children also pretended to be archaeologists, they looked for dinosaur fossils and bones and were able to name what dinosaur the fossil is from.
Reception
Forest School
During Forest School, we created art inspired by the Artist Claude Cahun. We used our bodies to make shapes and gestures in nature, looking at doubles and reflections to create a mirror image portrait, and using the landscape as camouflage and introducing costumes into our pictures.
This term in Reception- for Art Week we have been learning about the Artist Guiseppe Arcimboldo, as part of the children have been exploring the different ways we can use fruits and vegetables as art. We have made self-portraits and as a next step from our cress growing last term are now growing our own vegetables and herbs - Beetroot, Carrots, Kale Spring onions, basil and coriander. The children have been watering them each day and they are growing beautifully. On the last day of summer one we celebrated Elmer day with lots of fun activities including making our own Elmer elephants from Lego.
The children also celebrated mental health day and enjoyed a week on moving for mental health week out in the playground with the whole school, which has now become a weekly fixture that the children all really look forward to.
Our butterflies hatched from their cocoons. The children took care of them for a few days-giving them water and fruits before setting them free.
