LKS2

Year 3

Forest School - The children have been learning how to safely behave around a campfire and toast their marshmallow treats.

Science - During Science week we conducted a number of experiments including making predictions about what would happen when Skittles are submerged in water, and what effect the temperature would have on the process. We also discovered the ferocious reaction between the carbon dioxide in coke and a pack of mentos.

As part of our magnets topic we have been experimenting to find what materials are attracted to magnets.

Religion - As part of our Prophecy and Promise topic we have been learning about how Catholics celebrate Mass. We have been discussing why Christians go to Mass on Sundays and also role playing different parts of Mass including the Liturgy of the Word. In the build up to Christmas we have also been learning about the prophecy of the birth of Jesus and role playing the angel visiting Joseph.

Georgraphy - As part of our Climate Zones topic, we have been learning to identify the lines of latitude, longitude and the equator on a map. We have been drawing these lines onto satsumas as a practical task to aid us with our learning.

Computing - This half term we have been learning to program in Scratch. We have programmed our sprites to follow a sequence of code to move using x and y coordinates, ‘if’ statements and add sound.

Year 4

In Year 4 we have been busy in and out of class! For our DT unit we cooked European meals such as Greek chicken with lemon, Schnitzel, potatoes with herbs, coleslaw and lemon cheesecake!

In Forest school lessons we made a campfire and enjoyed roasting marshmallows!

For our Science unit we have been learning about vertebrates and invertebrates and we explored the wildlife of our playground, there was so much to discover!

We celebrated Remembrance Day with a Poppy and drama workshop in which we talked about the causes of the war, the impact of adverts and the loss of so many human lives.

Finally, as part of our English character and setting focus, we arranged a peer reading session with Reception children.
