In KS1, children learn about their local area, the UK and weather patterns. Children also engage in investigating their local area and contrasting it to a non-european country to observe similarities and differences. Children develop key skills such as how to use atlases and globes to learn about the world. They also learn how to use compass directions. All these skills will continue to be built on as they move into KS2.
