For our Arts Weeks this year we looked at God's creation.
Below you can find some examples of each year groups learning and outcomes!
Preschool&Nursery
Children have been learning about the creation of food and a rainbow of colours. After looking at Giuseppe Arcimboldo's painting, the children looked at the effects of rolling fruit through paint and then printed with different fruits and vegetables.
The artist Rachel Jones inspired their large joint piece of art made with oil pastels. The children used all the colours of the rainbow o do this and smudged the lines like Rachel does in her work.
The children also collected flowers, leaves and branches to make their own natural brushes for painting. Finally they then explored the forest area and created their own tree paintings using their hands and brushes.
Reception
Reception children creation focus was: food! They have been learning about the Italian artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, who is well know for painting portraits of people made out of different fruits, vegetables , meat and fish.
In class children have created their own self-portraits by collaging different fruits and vegetables and then used those to print on faces to make their masks.
Finally, children explored the work of the artist Claude Cahun ant they made art using their bodies in nature.
Year 1
In Year 1 we have been learning about seasons and how we can use colours to create different seasonal pictures. We looked at paintings of Alfred Sisley and how he created seasons.
We also looked at sculptures of Sokari Douglas Camp and tried to recreate foil sculptures to represent her metal sculptures. We had a real artist called Ben who helped us to create sculptures with the foil.
Year 2
In year 2 we were given water as a focus. We can feel many emotions when we look at water: we can feel calm, peaceful and happy. The artist that we focused on was William Turner, who painted various landscapes. We also focused on the great wave by Hokusai, who painted using block printing.
We created two pieces of art: we used watercolour pints to create an ocean background and used tissue paper to create our favourite sea creature.
We also used bleeding tissue paper to make a colourful background and the quilling technique to make bright fishes.
Year 3
In year 3 pupils have been focusing on flowers. They have been researching on an Artist called Yelena James, who created a background using watercolours and in the foreground used fine felt tips or paint with fine paint brushes. We had used her art work to create our own as well as creating origami flowers.
Year 4
Year 4 creation was night! The children have been embracing the beauty of darkness, reflecting on light sources such as he moon and the stars.
The pupils explored how night has been depicted over time. Their artworks were inspired by three paintings of Vincent Van Gogh: the starry night, the cafe terrace over night and night over Rhone.
They learnt how to create secondary colours, experimented how to use complementary colours and observed that night's elements are made of a variety of shades of colours, not only yellow, blue and white!
Year 5
Year 5 children focus was animals. They have taken inspiration from the at the artist Marcia Baldwin, who worked with oil paints and other media to show her favourite things in the world: animals. The children were able to find out many more interesting facts about her! They drew a variety of animals and created backgrounds using watercolours and then made a 3D animal collage using foil, fabrics and newspapers.
Year 6
Year 6 children focused on day and sun. The artists they have been focusing on are Caspar David Friedrich and Felix Vallotton. We have enjoyed experimenting with a range of media such as watercolour paints, chalk and oil pastels to create our own sunset artwork. They found interesting to explore how moods can be reflected using a range of different colours.
