Mrs. Beth McGovern teaches all grades at
St. Eugene School and
grades K-2 at St. Paul of the Cross School.
Mrs. McGovern studied Art and Marketing at
St. Joseph’s College (IN), where she played Division II volleyball. After college, Mrs. McGovern worked at an art gallery while attending Columbia College Chicago for her Master’s in Visual Arts Management. During the next 8 years, she taught on the far South Side of Chicago
at SkyART, an art center for at-risk youth.
Mrs. McGovern lives in Ravenswood and previously taught at Catholic schools in Uptown and Edgewater. She has been happily married for 16 years and has a daughter, Mary, in 7th grade, and a son, Ignatius (Iggy), in 4th grade who attend St. Benedict Preparatory School.
In her spare time she enjoys creating art with her children, coaching volleyball, fixing up her 130+ year old home, and taking RV trips with her family during the summer.
Mrs. McGovern’s teaching goal is for all students to have a positive experience in the art room.
Through teaching art techniques in many different mediums, she hopes to get students excited about art and the creative process. She runs a “yes environment” in her art room, encouraging students to take risks, think outside the box, and use their imaginations.
Mrs. McGovern firmly believes the creative problem solving skills students acquire in art can translate to many other areas of their life.
She loves hearing students’ stories of creating artwork in their free time!
