Virtual Learning

You do NOT need to come in for drop off next week. Your child doesn't have too much to bring back. It should fit in their backpack. I will NOT be here at those drop off times.

To Be Returned -

  • one large ziplock bag with their small reading books, a whisper phone, word flashcards, a Daily 5 wipe off chart, and a dry erase marker

  • any Marvelous Me books and posters can be returned to school, so I can hang them up and the other kids can look at them.

  • Mrs. Clark's Music bag

  • art projects if you have any

  • anything you have set aside for their kindergarten portfolio keepsake

As I have been adding more things to your child's kindergarten portfolio keepsake, I thought it would be good to save a few things from our virtual learning time. So if you think of it, please set aside a few of their best items.

*** a drawing from Seesaw (how to draw Pete the Cat, a gingerbread, a Santa, etc.)

*** a sample or two from their "bonus" worksheets - like a Christmas themed one would be good - a math and literacy one if you have it

*** any other things that you think are really good that you would like to have saved in their portfolio

Thank you so much! This can just be returned to school when we meet up again in person!

Library Fun!!!

Mrs. Schermetzler (our new librarian) is starting an all-school Holiday Reading Challenge!

Complete each item and color in the corresponding ornament over the next 6 weeks. All students who complete the challenge will be entered into a drawing to win a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card. The Holiday Reading Challenge forms are due by Monday, January 4 and can be returned to me via email: library@st-alphonsus.org.

We are supposed to be reading daily, so what a wonderful way to make it fun!

December Family Projects

Here is how to make your Google Meet into a grid view, so that you can see everyone. You might have to change the layout, but you should be able to see everyone.

Hi Families!

I am very thankful that we had over 50 days together to start the year!

Please don't feel overwhelmed. I realize that many people are working and now trying to be an at home teacher.

I will post some BONUS activities on Seesaw and also keep updating this page with information and videos.

Please email me whenever with questions and/or concerns.

Aldi bag of materials coming home - information

Green Folder has all of their daily work in it.

It's so nice to have the students on a schedule and routine so they know what to expect each day. This work packet has been created to cover kindergarten skills in a repetitive format. This way, children can be independent most of the time and are not constantly asking you for help. New standards are introduced about once a week, so your child may need help with that. This format builds their confidence and helps them master skills and standards quickly.

Students color a star when they complete the assignment. There are 2 empty boxes that you can add activities to daily. This could be academic or it could be their chores around the house. (pick up toys, put clothes away, etc.)

Most of the supplies and materials sent home do NOT need to be returned.

However, I have labeled one large ziplock bag to be returned when the children come back. In this bag is their small reading books, a whisper phone, word flashcards, a Daily 5 wipe off chart, and a dry erase marker. I would like these items to come back to school as we use them every day.

Also any Marvelous Me books and posters can be returned to school, so I can hang them up and the other kids can look at them.

Mrs. Clark's Music bags should be returned as well.

Google Meets - Join from your Google Calendar or from the email invite

After their Specialists Meet at 10:20 - they can log off for the day and work on anything they didn't get finished. This will be the best parts of the day! Please review the Virtual Rules to help us have more quality time together.
Last year it helped to teach the students to Mute/UnMute themselves when they are talking or listening. At times it got hard because someone in the background was making noise or the student was making noise (and not really even realizing it).
UnMute (or microphone on) to talk and ask questions and Mute (microphone off) when listening to teacher or other student.
Also, please familiarize your child with the ending a call button (either a red phone or red X on the bottom), so they can end the call and start working when it's time.

After Meet #3 - Students can log off Meets for the day

Boom Cards

https://wow.boomlearning.com/

Click on BOOM! to get to your BOOM! cards.

Do 1-2 decks daily (or more if you want to)

Daily 5

Each day they should do all (or most of) each of these activities. Each station can last about 5-10 minutes (longer if their stamina is higher).

  1. Read to Self - read books the entire time

  2. Listen to read - 1. Boom cards 2. Bible App Click here to visit Bible App for Kids

  3. Work on Writing (the paper I provided is printed on both sides, so I tell them not to use markers or it will go onto the other side - it's okay if they did, but I am just trying to not waste as much paper)

  4. Word Work - word cards sent home in baggie

  5. "Bonus" Activity - in green folder and on Seesaw (you do not have to do all of the activities on there - pick and choose which ones you would like to complete - I just added more for families who are enjoying this platform and needed more choices)

Fun Handprints Art Keepsake

There are 4 different options to choose from. If you have time, do them all and bind them together with the last page as the cover. It could be a fun keepsake to look at again next year. First is the page that you would print out (cardstock paper would be helpful) and second is the directions of how to create it.

OPTIONAL of course, but I would love to see them if you do decide to make it!
