The FFA Nursery/Landscape Career Development Event (CDE) is a hands-on competition that allows FFA members to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in horticulture, landscaping, and nursery management. The event simulates real-world scenarios in the landscaping industry, testing participants' abilities in areas like plant identification, landscape design, landscape estimating, plant propagation, customer service skills, and landscape installation.
Participants are typically required to complete a series of tasks, such as identifying various plants, designing a landscape plan, estimating material costs, propagating plants, and solving real-world landscaping problems. Competitors also take written exams to assess their knowledge in plant science, business practices, and the technical aspects of landscaping.
The Nursery/Landscape CDE is a great way for students to showcase their skills, gain practical experience, and prepare for careers in the green industry. Top teams and individuals often advance to national competitions, where they can further demonstrate their expertise.
If and when our program qualifies, South Shore Tech’s FFA Nursery/Landscape team proudly represents Massachusetts at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, competing against 42 other states and more than 170 of the nation’s top students.
