All teachers and staff are considered diversity practitioners at SSES. To that end, we provide professional development opportunities, cultural competency training, and employ non-discriminatory hiring practices. As diversity practitioners, our faculty believes there is always more to learn.
Professional Development Opportunities
Faculty and administrators participate in several professional development opportunities throughout the school year, both on campus and off, which enrich our understanding of diversity in our community. Some opportunities include:
- Each year we send a group of faculty to the annual POCC (People of Color Conference) sponsored by NAIS (National Association of Independent School).
- Dedicated professional development days that feature speakers and workshops on cultural competency and on-going equity training for faculty.
- Book Clubs each summer and throughout the year for all faculty and staff.
- Each year we send faculty members to the White Privilege Conference
- AWARE (Association of White Anti-Racist Educators) is an organization of educators at St. Stephen's Episcopal School in Austin, TX. Here you'll find resources for learning more about social justice work and anti-racist education, more about our organization, and a calendar of upcoming meetings and events.
