Overview

Art history is the study of the rich heritage of visual arts produced by human societies. This production, ranging from painting, sculpture, architecture, design, photography and applied arts, to installation, conceptual and body art, has found expression in human cultures from the earliest times and has fulfilled a range of functions.  Students will go on field trips around Rome but are also encouraged to take independent visits.

Classical Greek and Roman Studies introduces students to the history and culture of ancient Greece and Rome. Students explore different kinds of evidence for these two cultures: the literary record, thought to be representative of the best of the creative and political achievements of these societies, as well as an archaeological record that is often suggestive of wider contexts for investigation. Students evaluate these records through the filters of modern critical frameworks as well as through their own personal viewpoint together with their own cultural filters, and they are encouraged to examine and develop an awareness of how judgments on the past may be affected by these factors. Students will have the opportunity to attend field trips and longer weekend trips.

The global politics course develops understanding and awareness of political issues that impact students at a personal, local, national or global level. Students will explore fundamental political concepts such as power, equality, sustainability, and peace in a range of contexts.

Economics is essentially about how society (people) deals with the problem of using the earth’s limited resources to satisfy the unlimited wants and needs of humans. Business Management studies business functions, management processes and decision-making in business organisations that operate in an ever-changing environment.

The history course  is a modern world history course based on a comparative and multi-perspective approach to history. It involves the study of a variety of types of history, including political, economic, social and cultural, and provides a balance of structure and flexibility.
