Class of 2022 Student Council Election

WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE 2022-2023 ELECTION! YOU ARE A WONDERFUL CLASS WITH SO MANY TALENTS AND WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR SPEECHES AND POSTERS. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN RUNNING FOR AN EXECUTIVE POSITION (CO- PRESIDENT, SECRETARY, OR HISTORIAN), THEN YOU MUST PRESENT A SPEECH AND CREATE A POSTER. PRE K - 4TH AND 8TH GRADE HOMEROOM REPS WILL BE ASSIGNED TO THOSE WHO RAN IN THE ELECTION, BUT DID NOT RECEIVE AN EXECUTIVE POSITION IN THE ELECTION.

*5TH-7TH GRADE HOMEROOM REPS ARE CHOSEN BY THE STUDENTS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE HOMEROOMS.

Election Schedule

*Please be punctual and respectful of the due dates.

Spring - general meeting for all 8th graders who are interested in running for Student Council. Meet at 12:00 in Room

Spring - all speeches must be turned into the Student Council classroom. Refer to the speech guidelines below.

Spring - students must edit their speeches based upon teacher's comments. Practice your revised speech. Any new material added to your speech MUST be shared again and approved by faculty.

Spring - Election poster (1 per candidate) is due 8:00 AM. Must be approved by one of the 4 teachers before it is displayed. At recess tape poster on the wall to the cafeteria. Bring masking tape from home (painters tape works well).

Spring - Practice speeches and meet with teachers if you made additional changes to your speeches.

Poster should :

- clearly state your name

- have a "catchy" campaign slogan

- be colorful and neat

- be creative and original

- be no larger than a large poster board

- not include any negative remarks about other candidates

- include a photo of yourself .

Spring - Candidates will present their speeches live in the studio (time TBD). Students will vote.

Fall - Student Council Installation at Mass

Guidelines for election speech:

Please do not distribute candy, favors, flyers, etc. to the students.

Do not use bribery or make promises you can't keep.

We expect all candidates to respect the process, each other, and to adhere to all due dates.

Speech should be about 2 minutes.

Introduce yourself (name and grade).

Talk about specific personality traits, achievements, gifts, and talents that you will bring to Student Council AND the position you are running for.

Why are YOU perfect for the position?

What are your goals as a SC rep?

What makes YOU a leader? (give examples)

Are you a team player and responsible (give examples)?

Do not make any materialistic promises.

Explain why YOU are the right choice for the specific position you are running for.

Be respectful to the other candidates.

Practice, practice, practice in front of family and friends.

Be creative and maintain the audience's attention. A little humor or a catchy slogan helps.

Speak clearly

Do not read your speech (Boring!)

Use inflection in your voice.

Elocution and poise are very important.

Make eye contact with the camera.

Practice, practice, practice, and practice some more in front of family and friends!!!
