Homework
Written homework will be given on Mondays through Thursdays. In addition to written homework, students should be reading and practicing sight words and trick words every night. In the beginning of the year, the homework sheet will be typed up and sent home on Mondays. As the year goes on, students will begin to copy homework daily into their homework copybooks. Please check and sign your child's homework worksheets and homework copybook every night.

"H" Folder
"H" Folder
Each student has a home, or "H", folder. The H folder will go back and forth between home and school every night. The left side of the folder is labeled "L" for leave at home. This means that any papers on that side of the folder can be taken out the night that the folder is sent home. The right side of the folder is labeled "R", which means that papers on that side are to be returned to school. Feel free to use this folder as a means of communication with me as well!

We are using "Walking With Jesus" for behavior management. You can read more about it here. Additionally, students can earn tickets for good behavior, which will be turned in for prizes in the prize box!

Birthdays are a very exciting time in First Grade! We celebrate each child's birthday in the following ways:

1) The birthday student gets to dress down and his/her name is announced on the Wake Up Call.

2) Student's parents are invited to read to the class.

3) The teacher will give the birthday student a card, sticker, crown, and pencil.

4) The class will sing/dance to a special birthday song and the student gets to chose a GoNoodle dance for the class.

Student of the Week
During the school year, we will be celebrating each child in our class through our “Student of the Week” bulletin board. The bulletin board is full of fun facts about each child and will contain information about them that we gather during their special week.
The children will each be assigned a week. They will have to complete a sheet with information about themselves and bring in pictures from home that they would like to share with everyone. The folder will be sent home the week before your student’s turn and should be returned on Monday. They will also bring a favorite book on Wednesday and a Show and Tell on Friday.
