Student/Parent Expectations

Wear Your Sneakers!

Parents, please help your child come dressed for success. On your child's PE day it is important that they come prepared with appropriate sneakers. Sneakers should be able to fasten tightly with a shoe string. In first grade, tying sneakers are a developing skill and I can assist with tying. Open toed shoes, flip flops, sandals, crocs, and dress shoes are considered unsafe for your child and others. On days of inclement weather, it is acceptable to pack gym sneaks in a separate bag and change during school. Thank you for your help!

Entry and Exit Procedures

Students begin outside the gym where they are silently waiting for instruction. Our typical PE day always begins with a short instant activity. The instant activity gets our students moving right away. Basic skills are practiced and reinforced. After our instant activity, students walk to their home spot for role-call, instruction, lesson focus and activity . Our exit procedure begins from home spot with a review and assessment. I like to end with a class chant. "1-2-3 I love PE... 4-5-6 Give 3 kicks (kick three times)... 7-8-9 silent in line..." Students silently leave the gym area where we go for water.

Water and Bathroom Breaks

Due to the nature of first grade students, water and bathroom breaks are encouraged to be taken at the end of class in an organized manner. All students are given the opportunity to do so as part of my exit and transition procedures. This does not mean that I deny your child the opportunity to use the restroom when in need. I general ask the child if he or she can wait till the end of class. If the child is unable to wait, they always have my permission to go.

Unfortunately, at times students will be asked to take a short 1-2 minute break. Breaks are generally asks if a students is becoming too aggressive or breaking one of our class rules. Breaks are given as a last measure of redirection.

Consequences:

1. Verbal or non-verbal class warning

2. Direct personal review of class expectations

3. Time-Out
