First Year Paras: First-year paras are required to complete a four-day New Para Orientation session before starting in the classroom. This program fulfills professional learning requirements for their first school year. First-year paras may revisit learning from the orientation through the modules on the First-Year Para Information tab of this website. Additionally, supervisors may assign a para one of these modules as a refresher.
Second-Year Paras: Second-year paraprofessionals are considered to be anyone entering their second school year with the district. Second-year paraprofessionals are required to complete ONE of the FOUR available professional learning modules. Each module is approximately ten hours in length. Time to complete this course must be allotted during the paraprofessional's normal work day. The four options for professional learning are: Autism, Behavior Management, Numeracy, and Literacy. Kickup registration is required for each course. Courses can be found on the Para Learning 201 tab of this website. All courses must be completed by May 1st, 2024 to receive credit.
Third-Year Paras: Third-year paraprofessionals are considered to be anyone entering their third school year with the district. Third-year paraprofessionals are required to complete ONE of the FOUR available professional learning modules. Each module is approximately ten hours in length. Time to complete this course must be allotted during the paraprofessional's normal work day. They should continue the same professional learning path that they began in their second year. For example, if a para completed Behavior Management 201 in their second year, they should complete Behavior Management 301 in their third year. Kickup registration is required for each course. Veteran Paras (with 4 or more years of experience): Veteran paras are not required to complete any of the level 201 or level 301 modules. However, they may choose to register and complete any of the courses. Additionally, a supervisor may assign any course to a veteran paraprofessional. All courses must be completed by May 1st, 2024 to receive credit.
