Celebrating exceptional AAC practices across St. Louis County!
✻ SSD In AACtion ✻
Check out who has inspired us with their AAC implementation!
This month, we are highlighting Shannon Birtwistle and Lilly Bosso from Beasley Elementary School in the Mehlville School District.
Shannon and Lilly are SLPs who have been working with SSD for a combined total of 22 years. They currently serve students at Beasley Elementary as well as Trautwein and Bierbaum Elementary Schools.
Shannon and Lilly have both been given the opportunity to expand their service delivery horizons this year, specifically in the area of AAC and are working in buildings with high numbers of AAC users. Lilly is using child-lead therapy approaches to increase motivation to communicate as well as teaching and exposure to SSD's core Word of the Week Curriculum. By providing instruction within the SSD classrooms, she is able to model Aided language Input and mitigation of gestalts for other team members, as well as language modeling for all the students in her groups. Shannon has taken the initiative to provide additional communication support through access to voice output single message devices as well as low tech posters and flip books. She works to ensure access to communication supports and visual models across activities and environments.
Thank you Shannon and Lilly for jumping in to provide amazing intervention while encouraging staff members to utilize AAC systems throughout the day!
