Important Summative Assessments Information
Two summative assessment periods will be held during the school year; during the last week of the first semester and the last week of the school year (second semester).
In Grades 7-9, midterm assessments (end of first semester) will be administered for English Language Arts, and Mathematics.
Final assessments in Grades 7-12 must be administered for the four core subject areas
(English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies).
In the event of a course being delivered in more than one section of the timetable, a common assessment must be administered.
All students must remain in the summative assessment room for a minimum of one hour from the commencement of the summative assessment (unless otherwise stated by the subject teacher or the summative assessment is an alternative to a formal examination).
Only resources (books, notes, calculators …) as determined by the subject teacher will be allowed during summative assessments).
Students who are unable to be present for the writing of a final assessment (or who have a scheduling conflict) can have their parent/guardian request to have their assessment(s) rescheduled by Administration (Contact Christy MacKay).
Students in junior high may be exempted from Final Summative Assessments if they have demonstrated an overall performance level of Extending. Exemptions do not apply to the NWT Functional Skill Assessments in grades 7, or NWT Graduation Assessments in grades 10 and 12, or to course midterm assessments. Students (and Administration) will be advised one week prior to the assessment period of any exemptions.
