Expectations
In Room 19, we have 3 simple rules in order to create a safe and cooperative learning environment:
Be kind
Be safe
Be respectful
Behavior Management
I strongly believe in creating a warm, friendly, and positive classroom environment where all students feel safe and cared for. My focus is on building relationships with students and working together to build our classroom community. Students will be expected to always follow our 3 rules (be safe, be kind, be respectful). When they are following these rules they will receive both individual and whole class incentives.
I also believe that the purpose of discipline is to teach and not to punish. We will work together to learn how to be our best fifth grade selves this year!
Logical Consequences
As we grow together throughout the school year, there will be times when we make mistakes and need to stop and think. In these moments, students will be given gentle reminders about our classroom rules. If the mistake continues to happen or causes a bigger problem to occur we will take these steps:
Discuss the problem together with those involved
Take responsibility for our actions
Apologize and make amends to those we may have hurt or effected
Fill out a "think sheet" to send home letting our family know what happened
For more severe behavior: a call home or visit to the vice principal
Behavior Incentives
Individual Incentives: Students earn tickets for being a classroom role model and we will have raffles where they can spend their tickets on prizes. I also am always giving “positive shout outs” and looking to draw attention to positive behavior. Students will also occasionally bring home positive notes from their day or week to share with you!
Team Points: The students sit in cooperative learning groups and they can earn points as a team for being role models in the classroom. The team with the most points each Friday, gets to have flexible seating the following week.
Whole Class Incentive: When we receive a compliment from another adult on campus or when the whole class is working well together, we earn marbles in our marble jar. As a class, we agree on what our reward will be if/when we fill our jar. Examples of rewards are: pajama day, a special treat, extra play time, stinky feet day (no shoes while we are inside).
