Tanghulu is a trend that has been taking the internet by storm. If you don't know what it is, let me tell you. Tanghulu is a Chinese snack where you take melted sugar and coat it over a fruit of choice. In the end, you are left with a hardened sugar candy that has a satisfying crunch and an appetizing look.
You make Tanghulu by grabbing the fruit you want and putting it on skewers. You then want to create a syrup by boiling sugar and water, and sticking the fruit into the syrup. You then let the fruit harden.
First and foremost, we must mention the simplicity of the steps in Tanghulu. There really isn't that much to it. You can make this fun trend very quickly once you get the hang of it. Secondly, it's satisfying. Who doesn't love a nice crunch? Not to mention, it's pretty good ASMR.
Surprisingly, there isn't too many downsides. The one con though, is that when your first learning how to make Tanghulu, the syrup can be one of the hardest things to master. You don't really want to stir it that much, or boil it for too long. It's recommended to use a thermometer so then you can accurately tell when the syrup is done.
Is It Worth It?
I'm going to cut to the chase: Yes. Tanghulu certainly is worth the hype. It doesn't have insanely complicated steps, and has a fantastic taste that you can easily customize to fit your liking. So why not try creating your own Tanghulu?
