Google Meet/Zoom

August 23, 2020

Starting tomorrow, SRVUSD has locked Zoom to make it more secure. If students can't get authenticated, then they can't log in.

The only way for students to get authenticated is to follow these steps:

  1. download the Zoom app from zoom.us

  2. click "resources" in the upper right hand corner, then download Zoom client

  3. login with your school email

If your child is still having trouble logging into Zoom, follow these steps....

Being Part of a Virtual Class

The teacher will need to invite a student to a meeting in order to join it. When they’ve done so, you’ll receive a Gmail invitation, or Google Calendar event, that has a clickable join link. The meeting will probably be password encrypted, so they will need a pen/paper. They are NOT allowed the share this meeting invite with ANYONE.

Students should put a reminder in their phone to let them know about the start times for all of their Google Meets.

Joining Your First Google Meet/Zoom

When it’s time to join the meeting, your child will click the link in the Gmail/calendar event and the meeting will open in Meet.

They will automatically be muted - they should stay that way until notified by their teacher. Be sure to turn the camera on using the buttons at the bottom of the screen. Your teach must see you in order to take roll. To leave the meeting, they can push the "hang up"button at the bottom of the screen.

Breakout Groups? No, not that kind...

To facilitate student discussions, teachers can assign students to a "breakout groups" where students can speak with their peers - teachers can pop in and out of all groups and them pull the class back into the full class Meet.

Can my child ask for a 1:1 Google Meet with their teacher? YES!!! Please !!!!
