Respect: Be courteous to each other, teachers, T.A.’s and substitute teachers. Actively listen when the teacher or another student is speaking. Respect artwork, classroom materials and the classroom environment.
Monte Vista is a No Place for Hate School. We put an emphasis on creating respectful and empathetic classroom communities so that students from all identities, abilities, and perspectives feel seen and heard. Student safety is critical for effective learning and for feeling connected to school, adults, and peers. Embracing and celebrating diversity of lived experiences in the classroom environment can be viewed as an opportunity to enrich, and as a resource that can benefit everyone.
Preparedness: Be on time and prepared to work. Bring necessary materials and your binder with you every day. Once the bell rings, students are not permitted to retrieve forgotten items from their lockers. Pay attention to deadlines and turn work in on time.
Effort: Work and participate throughout the class period to the best of your ability. Make up all missed work promptly. Unexcused absences and/or tardiness will lower your grade. Leaving the classroom without permission will result in an absence/cut and a referral.
Attendance: Monte Vista High School’s Administration and Faculty emphasize the importance of daily student attendance. Students are expected to attend classes daily and attendance will be taken during each class period. For more information on the MVHS Attendance policies, please see the 2025-26 Student Handbook.
Responsibility: Handle materials and equipment in a responsible and appropriate manner. Keep all food and drinks out of the classroom.
Cell phones will be turned off and put away during class/lecture time. If students want to listen to music during studio time they may do this however it is up to the discretion of the teacher if this becomes a distraction. No cell Phones or electronic devices are allowed in the darkroom at any time. If cell phone use becomes a distraction teacher will confiscate the phone/ device.
Artiifcial Intelligence: Use of AI for any writing assignment is prohibited. However, SRVUSD acknowledges that globally, education systems are recognizing the transformative nature of AI. As AI becomes increasingly commonplace, it is apparent that students must be prepared to navigate new tools. Fortunately, the SRVUSD Learner Profile consists of skills that are uniquely human, which can complement this work. Please read more about the SRVUSD Guiding Principles of AI here.
