In this year long course students get the experience of creating hand made photographs using 35MM film and the darkroom as well as learning the basics of digital photography and Photoshop.
Although photography is becoming increasingly focused on digital technology creating photographs by hand will teach students the basics and fundamentals of camera operation, the darkroom and use of light to create works of hand made art.
However, as digital media is becoming the norm in fine art photography, photojournalism and commercial photography, It is important for students to also have a basic understanding of digital photography, editing and the rules of design in order to prepare for careers in these areas.
This class at Monte Vista will teach how to properly use a digital camera and film camera to create well composed, well lit and properly exposed images that are interesting and dynamic works of art!
In this year long course students learn advanced photography including advanced operation of a digital camera, advanced Darkroom techniques, use of well balanced composition, and a more complete understanding of ideation in the creation of an artistic photograph. By the end of this course advanced student will be able to take artistic photographs that use advanced editing skills. In this course students will continue to learn the history of Photography which will include the study of classic photographers who have made major contributions to the medium. Also students will participate in ongoing critiques of their own work and others in the class to gain a better understanding of visual literacy and vocabulary.

Photo is a skill that you will continue to use throughout your life. In todays world of imagery and digital media it is a skill that will be an invaluable resource. I hope that you will love and enjoy this class and that it will be one of the bright spots in your day!
