What is the TSI? The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a state assessment that helps identify if your child is ready for college-level reading, writing, and math courses.
Discover opportunities early: Taking the TSI in middle or early high school can open doors to dual credit, early college, and advanced academic programs.
Build confidence through preparation: Encourage your child to review sample questions, practice online, and ask teachers for help — preparation helps reduce test anxiety and improves performance.
Understand it’s not a pass or fail test: The TSI is used to guide students into the right courses for success, not to determine graduation or limit opportunities.
Support your child’s college and career journey: Talk about their testing goals, celebrate their efforts, and join GEAR UP events or parent sessions to learn how testing connects to college and career readiness.
What are Pathways? – A pathway is a plan of study in high school that connects your child’s classes to future college and career opportunities.
Explore your child’s interests – Pathways help students discover careers that match their strengths and passions.
Plan for high school success – Choosing a pathway ensures your child takes the right courses to stay on track for graduation.
Build real-world skills – Pathways include classes and experiences that prepare students for college, careers, and life after high school.
Support your child – Learn about your child’s pathway, discuss their goals, and attend GEAR UP events and workshops to stay involved.
Use online resources – Tools like My Texas Future and Texas OnCourse can help you and your child explore pathways and career options together.
Early exposure matters: Middle schoolers who explore careers sooner set clearer goals and stay engaged in school.
Connect interests to pathways: Students link hobbies/strengths to real jobs, CTE programs, and Texas industries.
Plan smarter for high school: Exploration informs 9th-grade endorsements, Algebra I, and course selections.
Build real-world skills: Activities practice communication, problem-solving, and teamwork employers value.
Demystify college/training: Students learn differences among certificates, community college, and universities (costs, timelines, aid).
Family partnership: Simple at-home talks and campus visits make future planning normal and achievable.
