GEAR UP: Choosing College, Changing Lives!
The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a federally funded grant beginning with the Class of 2030 in October 2024.
GEAR UP works to help students and families by:
Increasing postsecondary expectations and readiness.
Improving high school graduation and college enrollment rates.
Expanding knowledge of college and career options, preparation, and financing.
What makes GEAR UP different is that we start early—supporting your child in middle school and staying with them through high school and beyond.
Instead of using a one-size-fits-all plan, GEAR UP works with your schools, local colleges, and community partners to create programs that meet the specific needs of your community.
By working together with families like yours, we build strong pathways that help your child succeed in college, careers, and life after graduation.
GEAR UP is here to support you and your child as you plan for the future. Through the program, your family may receive:
Mentoring and tutoring to help your child succeed in school
College and career activities to explore future opportunities
Workshops and events to guide you through the college planning process
Support for teachers and counselors so your child gets the best instruction
Information about scholarships and financial aid to make college more affordable
Together, these services help your child stay on track for high school graduation and prepare for college and career success.
