Contests

The First coding test (March 4, 2020)

Why are we starting with a test isn't that a put off?

The test is just a warm-up activity. We believe this is a nice way of assessing where we are and what we may be missing. This will also provide us with material to discuss during our initial meeting sessions in the club.

Is it a written test?

Well yes, but not on a paper! We have put together an online test (hosted on hackearth) and there will be MCQs, Subjective questions and some Programming questions. Please log on to hackerearth and get yourself familiarized with the platform.

Will I be provided with a laptop?

The available laptop computers in ALC may only be sufficient for 30-40 students; so please bring your personal computers as much as possible.

What programming languages am I expected to use during the test?

To answer the programming questions you can you C, C++, Python or Java. But in general we expect you to be reasonably good at basic coding in Python and C.

I am super excited! What should I do now?

Go ahead and register yourself in the google form below.

Who do I contact if I have further questions?

You can write to the following email IDs in case you have further questions.

Summary:

We had some 70+ registrations in response to the poster and the email. Out of these, 59 students attended the contest. Most of the participants were first years and did not have any prior experience facing a coding contest. Despite this, based on the short intro we gave them, they were able to understand the specific format in which they have to submit the solutions on the platform. In the next session, we will discuss the solutions and introduce the best practices.
