Frumiesha Brown is a designer, quilter, historian, and cultural anthropologist born and raised in Newark, NJ. She holds a deep passion for quilting and understanding the earliest cultural symbols of African American culture. Brown’s process involves reimagining fabrics and constructing new designs. She received her BA in Cultural Anthropology from William Paterson University and has conducted fieldwork in urban cities, interviewing various African Americans to gain a deeper understanding of the modern cultural implications of slavery in American society.
In 2016, Frumeisha and Jaimeo cofounded Transcending Arts LLC, which derived from the cultural concepts explored by the Jaimeo Brown Transcendence band. Using an African American lens, they seek to highlight the ways people around the world have used creativity, ingenuity, and available technology to create new models of music, culture, and education for their communities.
