It is our belief that in first grade the primary benefits of homework are to develop a child’s responsibility and to allow an opportunity for families to monitor their child’s progress. We believe that family time is most important and that time spent on homework should not exceed 20 minutes a night. Please check your child's blue homework folder every Monday for homework. Homework is turned in every Monday!
#1 Read Aloud
At least five days a week, we need you to listen to your child read aloud books at their level for 10 minutes. We also need you to read books aloud to your child. Then, once a week choose either a fiction or non-fiction text for your child to respond to.
#2 Sight Words
Every week your child will receive 4 new sight word flash cards to memorize by sight.
#3 Math
Beginning after Thanksgiving, we will start sending home weekly math homework. This homework is meant to be a review of concepts we have already learned in class.
