Midstage Theatre Troupe is continuing their tradition of being a student-lead production company. This year's student director chose a play that is part suspense, part documentary, and part intriguing. This vision includes - not revealing the play!

Current 8th graders (entering 9th grade in the fall) through current 12th graders who are interested in auditioning are asked to sign up for a time at the link below and bring a completed audition form. We also ask that students prepare one of the three monologues provided to either read or recite from memory. The directors will also ask each student to cold-read another short monologue during their audition.

Not interested in acting but want to help with one of the other many aspects of a theater production like tech and stage crew, costumes, social media, advertising, programs, posters, and more? Please also fill out the application form and return to us at emma@sptheatreguild.org.

Frequently Asked Questions:

I will be working this summer or going on a vacation - will this be a problem?

Our audition form includes a calendar to give us your availability. We plan to cast and plan rehearsals accordingly. This play has lots of casting options so we cast you based on your availability! We do ask that you are available for tech rehearsals August 1st-August 9th - and the performances as well, of course.  We advise people to give us their availability and come audition and we'll let you know if we think it can work!

Would you consider me for all parts, regardless of gender?

Our student directors plan to carry on the tradition of casting gender-blind for this play.

What days of the week would we typically rehearse?

We will look at everyone's availability and try to schedule scene rehearsal accordingly. We will have several rehearsals a week but actors will most likely not be called to every one of those., only when we are rehearsing their group's scenes. In the past, most of our rehearsals have taken place during the day once school is out. As if now, we expect to start rehearsals the week of June 23rd.

Can I act and be a part of the production team?

Absolutely! There are many production roles that we would love to have teens help and can be done outside of your rehearsal time. Check out the audition application for some of the roles we are looking for or reach out to our student directors. You can also email emma@sptheatreguild.org.

Can  students from other school districts audition?

Yes they can. We have had Middleton, River Valley, Baraboo, and home schooled students join us previously.

How many roles are there?

Over 40! We plan to double and maybe triple cast the roles. So if you're looking for small parts, or only a few lines - we'll have options for that as well!

I've never done anything in theater before. Is that okay?

Absolutely! As we are a part of the community theatre  group - Sauk Prairie Theatre Guild - we also believe in providing people of all levels of experience a space to learn and grow in our performance arts community. We ask about previous experience in the audition forms but also ask some other questions. All of this helps paint a picture for our directors as they plan our rehearsal schedules. But casting will come down to your audition and schedule for the most part.

Should I be nervous?

There's no need to be but it is perfectly normal to be nervous. We try to create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. We want you to have fun and be yourself. Show us your personality. We don't expect your audition to be perfect so don't strive for perfection. Look at the monologues ahead of time and pick one that you think you'd enjoy performing for us. Think about how you want to deliver the lines and the different ways you can potentially interpret the material - show us what you can do!

Will there be call backs?

There is a good chance there will be call backs to have some people read together. We will be able to cast MOST of the show without callbacks, so please know if you don't get a call back that doesn't mean you didn't get a part. There are just a few sections, due to the nature of the show, that we may want to see some groupings before we finalize the cast.
