Hello!  My name is Joy Vernon. I'm a Smithfield native, and I hold a BA in music education from Virginia Wesleyan College (Batten University) and an MM in Choral Conducting from Temple University.  

I have performed as a vocalist with various ensembles and for various events in both Hampton Roads and Philadelphia.  Since 2022, I have had a blast conducting bands in the pit and music directing shows like Matilda, Bridges of Madison County, and Mack & Mabel at Williamsburg Players and PCT.  I have performed in the ensemble for The Wiz at the New Bedford Festival Theater in MA, and have acting credits in Newsies, The Sound of Music, and Ain't Misbehavin' here in the 757.  This is my fourth year as Theatre Arts Director at John Yeates Middle School!  I have gained a lot of experience through my time working with these various productions that I am glad to have the opportunity to pass on to my students.

After school, I teach voice/piano lessons at Centerstage Academy in Yorktown, VA and I sing on the worship team at my church, Victory Life Church!
