Linda Hurwitz is the Orchestra Director at John Yeates Middle School She has been teaching in Suffolk Public Schools for 19 years. She performs regularly with the Virginia Symphony under Eric Jacobsen and has also performed with the Virginia Arts Festival, Virginia Opera, Richmond Symphony, Roanoke Symphony, and Baltimore Symphony. Her extensive performing experience also includes sharing the stage with notable world-class artists such as Tony Bennett, Kristen Chenoweth, Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Renee Fleming, Gil Shaham, and Yo Yo Ma. She received her teaching license at Old Dominion University. For several years she served on the faculty of the Academy of Music in Norfolk as well as Nansemond-Suffolk Academy teaching private violin lessons and small group classes. A graduate of Colby College in Maine, she received a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Music and completed her graduate studies at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where she received her Master of Music in Violin Performance.
