Hello! My name is Joy Vernon. I'm a Smithfield native, and I hold a BA in music education from Virginia Wesleyan College (Batten University) and an MM in Choral Conducting from Temple University.
I have performed with various ensembles in Hampton Roads and Philadelphia: Virginia Symphony Orchestra Chorus, Virginia Symphony Orchestra Chorus Holiday Pops! Collegiate Homecoming ensemble, Virginia Wesleyan Choirs, Virginia Wesleyan Summer Sacred Music ensembles, Great Bridge Presbyterian Chancel Choir, Temple University Concert Choir, TU Graduate Conductor Chorus and Recital Chorus, and the I. Sherman Greene Chorale. I have performed as a soloist with the Wren Masters from The College of William and Mary, the Great Bridge Presbyterian Chancel Choir, Chesapeake City Park's 9/11 Memorial service, and for NASA's Open House. I have gladly worked with numerous ensembles as music director in both music and musical theater arenas. This is my fourth year as Choral Director at John Yeates Middle School! I have gained a lot of experience through my time performing with these various ensembles that I am glad to have the opportunity to pass on to my students.
After school, I teach voice/piano lessons at Centerstage Academy in Yorktown, VA and sing on the worship team at my church, Victory Life Church!
