Seventh grade math is a crucial year for mathematics.
This year, we will be exploring new math concepts including geometry, proportional relationships, operations with rational numbers, probability, and the foundations of algebra. Our school uses the OpenUp Curriculum, which promotes learning through collaboration with peers, hands-on modeling, and real-world application of math content. These types of lessons make math fun and accessible to students with differing interests and mathematical abilities.
Students will need the following materials each day for math class:
A charged iPad
Pencil
Binder or folder for papers (a binder with plastic sleeves is recommended)
Correcting pen
Silent reading book
Water bottle (that has been filled up on the way to class, if possible)
A calculator with a positive and negative button
Homework will be assigned most nights, and should not take longer than 15-20 minutes to complete. Students will have time at school to complete this work, either in class, or during the study periods during the day. If your student needs assistance completing this work, please encourage them to use the resources provided on this website, head to Homework Club after school, or send me an email at hellieel@spsdme.org.
If you would like to learn more about district expectations and learning targets for seventh grade math, please check out the SPSD ELTs linked here.
Please check Google Classroom each week, to stay up-to-date on what is happening in our math class. Please note that these plans are subject to change.
