8TH GRADE BAND

About this class

8th Grade Band builds on what you have learned in 6th & 7th Grade Band. You extend the playing range on your instruments by learning new notes and you will learn more complex rhythms. Your overall goal is to be self-directed musicians and learn chamber music pieces with some band friends!

You will be learning a new online performance tool called Smartmusic. It has your book and some band music in it!

You will be learning different genres of music. Pop, classical, Jazz etc. you will also learn how to improvise!

As an 8th Grader you have the opportunity to join Performance Jazz, audition for the 7th and 8th Grade Honors Festival and audition for an Honors Jazz Festival.

Course/Class expectations...

  • Grading is on a 1-4 scale. You are assessed every time you play. Your grade on Summative assessments will expected to be a 3. If you do not receive a 3 you have to keep submitting the assessment until you play it well enough for a 3. ( We want our band to have 3 or 4 performances!)

  • attendance is important so you stay caught up.

  • participation is what band is! You have to be part of the group. Good bands work together towards the same goal.

  • If you practice and prepare for class , band becomes really fun!!

  • Check this site everyday to find the links to your assignments in google classroom.

All of your assessments and classwork will be linked to my Google Classroom site. Here is the code kcnglfk

THERE ARE THREE BAND CONCERTS AND THE MEMORIAL DAY......they might not be the way you are used to having performances :-)
