The Kennebec Central was built in 1889 to connect Randolph Maine to the NATIONAL SOLDIER HOME in Togus Maine ( that mostly held civil war veterans). The railroads main purpose was to haul coal to " the home ". The railroad had 4 engines over its working live.
How coal got to the home. First coal from mines would be blasted out of the mines to be cleaned & sorted.
Then the coal would be put in trains to the coast
then the coal would be put on barges to Randolph
The barges would come about 3 times a year
