The Brighton & Harrison began operations in 1883 from Harrison to Brighton to Brighton junction & the Maine Central interchange. The railroad was built as a easier way to get tourists from Portland to the hotels on the lakes & to connect Brighton to the outside world. The photo above shows Baldwin Locomotive works # 8 a 2-4-4 tank engine built in 1924 as the last engine for the railroad & the last two foot engine built for any American two footer. In the photo the engine is hauling a excursion train in 1940 these kept the railroad busy for its last years.
