Know the material! Choose something you are comfortable performing that showcases your ability and make sure it is well-rehearsed.
Choose a quiet, clean place to record. We want to hear you and be free of visual and auditory distractions in the background.
Be aware of lighting. If you're recording during the day, stand facing a window to get the natural light. In the evening avoid fluorescent or high contrasting lighting.
Film in landscape not portrait mode.
Have your camera on a stand or propped up so that it doesn’t shake. If possible have someone else operating the camera.
Make sure you are centered in the shot. If in your performance you need to sit, stand, or move around, make sure you will still be on camera and that your movement will be free of obstacles.
Wear clothing that isn’t distracting, inhibitive or uncomfortable.*
Face the camera but don't’ look directly into the camera unless you’re doing so for dramatic effect.
Slate at the beginning of the recording. This means you say your name, the name of the piece, and the playwright/composer/artist (if applicable). If performing two pieces, slate for BOTH of them before you start performing - not between the performances.
Edit your video.** Trim out any unnecessary parts of the recording before and after the audition performance.
Save and upload your video with your last name as the file name so that it can easily be found.
*See dance concentration audition requirements for specific clothing recommendations.
**See individual concentration audition requirements for specific editing restrictions.
