Math Facts and Math Concepts
Monday-Friday: Your math fact family will be practiced in school and at home - using flashcards, computer activities, and other ways to help you know from memory the basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. Once you pass the test on the operation whole sheet you move onto the next operation family and so on; the key is to practice and really know these facts. (NY-2.OA.2b Second Grade Standard: Know from memory all sums within 20 of two one-digit numbers. NY-3.OA.7b 3rd Grade Standard: Know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers. Fluency involves a mixture of just knowing some answers, knowing some answers from patterns, and knowing some answers from the use of strategies.)
Daily Math Sheet Monday-Thursday A weekly sheet is sent home on Monday, you may work on the sheet daily & turn it in daily or by Friday for completion credit. We also ask that you continue to practice the basic math facts in addition, subtraction, and multiplication (eventually) your own way.
Spelling
Monday-Friday
Spelling Lists will be assigned - you and your child will decide how best for you to study the words. This was very helpful for busy families and students' understanding of the phonics was grasped quite nicely. Vocabulary words are also on this list to study and practice to know the meaning of the word, not the spelling.
Reading and Language (ELA)Homework
Monday- Thursday : Read for 15-20 minutes (or more if you have the time) each night - the more you read with or to someone the more the fluency and vocabulary develop. In the Co-Teaching ELA room you may be assigned a fluency passage to practice daily - make sure you turn in that packet by Friday. That fluency packet is individualized and is meant to be repetitive in order to gain speed in fluency and word recognition.
Planners
Monday-Friday: Student planners/agendas are considered to be part of the homework, please have this each and every day. Parent signatures are very nice to have, this helps with communication, but are not a necessity unless organizational issues arise with homework or returned class work.
Consequences
If the student does not have their assigned homework in math on Friday we will give them another copy and have any extra class time we have in that day to give some support to finish the work.
