Each school year, Springville staff focus on one of the standards from the National Association for Gifted Children(NAGC). The NAGC Standards are focused on what educators do in the classroom to equally benefit gifted children. We take a process to make sure each staff member is learning and practicing the components of each standard.
1. Each staff member takes a survey on how "proficient" they are in each practice for our focus standard. This includes rating oneself by: (1) Emerging, (2) Developing, (3) Proficient, (4) Exemplary.
2. Data from the survey is collected to reveal the practices that received the lowest scores.
3. Practices which were the lowest rated are taught during workshops and professional development days over the course of the school year. Teachers also have the opportunity to meet with the TAG Coordinator in a Differentiation Collaboration Cycle to improve their practice in the focus standard as it applies to their classroom.
4. At the end of the school year, each teacher takes the same survey as they did at the beginning of the school year.
5. Data from the survey is collected, and any practices that did not increase in proficiency gets special attention in the professional development of the next year.
