Chorale (Varsity Mixed Choir)
This group consists of auditioned and/or selected students who have acquired advanced technical vocal and sight-reading skills, tested above average on an assessment and placement exam, and who have displayed a high level of responsibility and dedication to the choral music program. The Chorale membership branches out into the Chorale Men (Varsity Tenor-Bass Choir) and Chorale Women (Varsity Treble Choir), and each of these Chorale Ensembles will perform several formal and informal concerts and UIL events each year. Out of school time (rehearsal and performances) will be REQUIRED for this group. This is a HIGHLY selective ensemble. Membership in this choir is director appointed or auditioned students who display above average and advanced skills, talent and dedication to the choral music program. In addition to the other performances, students in this ensemble will perform in a Madrigal Festival Concert and Madrigal Festival Contest. Out of school time (rehearsal and performances) will be REQUIRED for this group.
Pre-Requisite: Concurrent enrollment in Chorale and Director Approval by audition or appointment.
This group of consists of auditioned and/or selected students who have acquired intermediate to advanced technical vocal and sight-reading skills, tested average on an assessment and placement exam, and who have displayed a high level of responsibility and dedication to the choral program. The Advanced Women will perform several formal and informal concerts and UIL events each year. Out of school time (rehearsal and performances) may be required for this group. This group consists of students who are entering the WHS Choral Program as intermediate freshmen or average to intermediate sophomores-seniors and have acquired minimal to intermediate technical vocal skills and BASIC sight-reading skills, tested moderate to average scores on an assessment and placement exam, and who have displayed a good level of responsibility and dedication to the choral program. This is the potential placement for all NEW choir students. Each of these concert choir ensembles will perform several formal and informal concerts and UIL events each year. This is another potential placement for NEW choir students. These ensembles will perform several formal and informal concerts and UIL events each year.
