Westfield High School has been proposed to be designated a school under the Purple Star Schools, a program that supports military-connected children as they relocate to new schools due to a parent’s change in duty station.
Every two to three years Military children move around the world, the Purple Star School program is designed to help schools respond to the educational and social-emotional challenges military-connected children face during their transition to a new school and keep them on track to be college, workforce, and life-ready. Military-connected refers to children of service members on active duty, and in the National Guard and Reserves like the ones here in the Houston Area.
We stand ready to offer any guidance and serve in a consultative role every step of the way for students here in our School and Community.
The Purple Star program was designed to help mitigate the challenges of high mobility by setting standards for and publicly designating military-friendly schools. Launched as a grassroots initiative in Ohio in 2017, there are now active or developing Purple Star initiatives in 11 states: Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
To better understand the landscape around and impact of the Purple Star program, the Texas Educational Agency, Spring ISD and the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC).
In order to support this initiative, our campus assist military families by:
Supporting military connected students and their families.
Offer professional development opportunities for staff members on issues related to military-connected students.

Passion about the students, families, and communities we serve is our priority, here in the Houston Area, we joined forces with the Military Reserve Centers bases for Army, Navy, Marines and National Guard (Air & Army). We connect to our community establishing a relationship through Unit Leadership, the School Liaison Officer, and Family Readiness Groups while we continue to improve our ability to meet the needs of our military connect students.
We are proud of the hands on, collaborative learning environment found within Spring ISD. Through our Project Based Learning instructional model and our willingness to meet the needs of ALL students, we are preparing the whole student for whatever future they chose.
Moving schools can be a difficult season for military students. At Spring ISD, we want to make this transition easier. That’s why we have programs set up to make our students feel welcomed by our friendly staff and students, no matter where you came from, no matter who you are.
