Meet the Directors 

Jacquie Quintana (Vargas)

Director of Bands, jvarga1@springisd.org

Mrs. Quintana teaches the Varsity Band as well as the Beginner Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet, Saxophone, and Percussion classes. 

Mrs. Quintana is starting her eighth-year teaching, with the 2023-24 school year being her sixth year at Bammel. 

Mrs. Quintana is a first-generation Sam Houston State University graduate with a Bachelor's in Music Education and a Master's in Band Studies (Eat 'Em Up Kats)! She is also an alumnus of the School for International Studies at Bammel and Dekaney High School. During her time at Dekaney High School, Mrs. Quintana served as the drum major from 2009-2011 and performed with the Dekaney High School Wind Ensemble at their first Midwest performance in 2010. Beginning in 2011 she worked in Spring ISD as a Flute private lesson teacher, marching tech, and drum major clinician. Mrs. Quintana's teachers at Bammel and Dekaney were Diane Vasquez, Josh Mooney, Mark Calima, Trent Cooper, Josaphat Jaime, and Greg Rinehart. At SHSU Mrs. Quintana studied under Mrs. Kathy Daniel, Dr. Brian Gibbs, and Dr. Matthew McInturf. 

Mrs. Quintana likes to read, watch movies, and play video games in her spare time. 

She lives with her husband, their dogs Ribeye & Mesquite, cats Tippy & Midnight, and turtle Zedd.

Genevieve Effler

Assistant Director of Bands, geffler@springisd.org 

Ms. Effler teaches the Non-Varsity Band as well as the beginner trumpet, horn, and low brass classes.


This is Ms. Effler’s first year of teaching and her first year at Bammel.


Ms. Effler is a 2023 graduate of the University of Houston (Go Coogs!) with a bachelor’s in Music Education. She played in the Spirit of Houston Marching Band and Cougar Brass basketball band during her time there as well as the University of Houston Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. She attended Manvel High School in Alvin ISD where she participated in the marching band. She has taught masterclasses and private lessons in Fort Bend ISD and worked with the Manvel High School marching band as a marching tech. Ms. Effler’s teachers at Manvel included Nathan Pair, Brittany Hunter, Michael Hernandez, and Benjamin Muths. While at UH her teachers included Gavin Reed, Dana Pradervand-Sedatole, David Bertman, Julie Derges, Cory Meals, and Priscilla Bell.


Ms. Effler loves to read, bake, play video games, and listen to music in her free time. She also loves to attend UH sporting events, especially basketball games.
