Class overview
Welcome to 8th Grade Science! This course is designed to provide instruction in the areas of Physics, Chemistry and Earth Science by incorporating hands-on laboratory activities in conjunction with class lectures, discussions and multimedia assignments and projects. The topics covered fall into four broad categories including Foundations of Science (Scientific Method and measurements), General Chemistry (interactions of matter), Forces and Energy (gravity, friction, magnetism) and the planet Earth (history of Earth and Earth systems).
Through this course you will develop and enhance problem-solving skills that may be applied to any problem that you encounter. You will learn to internalize what you learned and successfully communicate your findings to others.

My time in Springfield
After completing my Bachelors Degree in Applied Physics, I began teaching 8th Grade Physical Science at FMG in 2005. I earned my Masters Degree in Education in 2009. I coached five seasons of soccer at Dayton and six seasons of baseball at FMG. I started a Model Rocketry Class for the Summer Enrichment Program in 2012 and expanded my classes to include Engineering with K'NEX, Lego Robotics and Building with Legos. In 2017 I began teaching a VEX Robotics class at FMG while also running an after school Lego Robotics Club. 2025-2026 is my first year at Jonathan Dayton but my twenty first year teaching 8th Grade Science.
